If you are familiar with the successful film ‘The Butler’, you’ll be excited to know that Lee Daniels, the director of said film, is creating a new hip hop family drama. Empire was picked up by FOX for the 2014-2015 lineup of series. The plot surrounds a family hip hop empire with Terrence Howard starring as the head of a record label. Ms. Taraji P. Henson stars as his ex-wife, and an ex-con who funded the label. Other recognizable actors set to appear on the show are: Macy Gray, Gabourey Sidibe, and Malik Yoba. The show will cover topics such as homophobia in the black household, along with the struggle of a female convicted felon. I have to admit that I am excited to see a black series that steps outside of the box. Look out for Empire in the fall.
