Nas is opening up on how he feels about the current state of hip hop.
During a recent interview with Financial Times, Nas shared his opinion about the new generation of rappers. He’s in tune with some of them, like Fivo Foreign, who was featured on his album, King’s Disease on “Spicy” also featuring A$AP Ferg, but he’s not phased. During the interview, Nas said he doesn’t knock them, but not many have his attention.
“I appreciate what’s out there, but there’s no one keeping me up at night,” he continued, “I hear a new rap record and think it’s great, but I don’t listen to it the next week.”
Nas gave props to the late legend, Pop Smoke. Nas said,
“We were happy to see that young king come up. He was a breath of fresh air. The drill movement in London, Chicago, and New York is really exciting.”
Hip Hop DX also points out that Nas said he would be open to doing a song on a drill beat. It’s also worth pointing out that Nas is a timeless artist who has prevailed during all the eras of hip hop. Last year, chart data Tweeted Nas charted on the Hot 100 in the last four decades, which is a rare achievement.
